The Hope Fund

Meet Hope. She was a border collie abused in a terrible and very public way. She was thrown from a moving vehicle along a Louisville, KY, interstate on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 23, 2010. She was then hit by another car before a third driver stopped to help her.

No Kill Louisville (NKL) was called that evening and told the shelter would have to euthanize Hope unless NKL agreed to pay for her surgeries and care. No Kill Louisville's co-founders talked with the vets and agreed to take on the challenge of funding her surgeries. We then partnered with the Shamrock

Foundation's Arrow Fund, who is now overseeing her medical care, fostering and adoption, to give Hope a second chance. Then, we asked the public for help.

The community was moved by Hope's story and responded with an outpouring of support. In the first 24 hours alone, No Kill Louisville raised $10,000 for Hope!

Caring people donated everything from $1 to $500. Over the following days, more donations arrived not only through No Kill Louisville but through the Arrow Fund, Louisville Veterinary Specialist & Emergency Services (LVSES), where Hope would undergo multiple surgeries, and other local animal welfare groups who then contributed to a reward to find Hope's abusers.

The co-founders of No Kill Louisville quickly recognized that we'd raised more than the $12,000 estimated for Hope's surgeries and rehabilitation. So, we decided that any funds raised above and beyond her surgeries by No Kill Louisville would be set aside to help shelter and orphaned animals in need of medical care.

The Hope Fund was born. Meet the current and previous animals that have benefited from your kindness, and share in the Power of Hope!

after her initial surgeries. Follow Hope through her recovery and adoption!

As Hope began her rehabilitation with her foster family, Dr. Lara Day and Dr. Thomas Day, we identified several other animals we could help from area shelters. Their stories are below.

As we move forward, we will share the story of each animal you help through your donations to The Hope Fund, including regular updates on his or her recovery and cost of surgery and/or rehab. That way you know how your donations are helping, and after all, every one of our companion animals deserve

a little hope.

Please note: As of 10/21/10, we are awaiting the final bill for Hope's surgeries and rehab so we must hold the estimated cost in reserve until the final cost is determined.

Basic Guidelines for Fund: Every animal we help with The Hope Fund will be from a local shelter or rescue or be an orphaned pet. For now, the pets we help must be from Louisville or the surrounding counties. There must also be a guarantee that he or she will not be euthanized

after recovery.

We will continue this as long as there are funds available, so every single dollar and cent donated to this fund counts toward helping an animal in need. All donations are 100% tax deductible. We are a 501(c)3 public charity.
